The Maze Runner High School AU:

Newt said he’d come tonight, but Minho hasn’t seen him. And he’s been looking for him. For the last hour or so that has practically been the only thing he’s done. Searching for a splash of blue hair and a boyish face. When he finally finds it, he feels himself start pulling his mouth into a smile and… then it falters. Because, yeah, he knows Newt knows Thomas. He knows they’re friends. But he also knows Thomas, and he has known him long enough to know the look on his face when he’s going to go for it. And Newt doesn’t pull away; he leans in too and Minho’s head is screaming at him to look away, but he can’t he has to look and he has to see when their lips connect and he has to watch as they don’t fucking lean away but keep kissing. He barely realises that someone is trying to ask him something and instead he just says he needs to go, or at least he thinks he does. Maybe he just thinks it because he needs to get away. He needs to scrub his eyes and unclench his stomach and turn off his brain. 

Newt knows Thomas is going to kiss him probably before even Thomas himself does. They’ve downed a couple of shots already and Newt thinks he’s tipsy enough to enjoy it. So he meets Thomas in the middle; it’s warm and sloppy and swift. They part and stare at each other for a second. Then they burst out laughing because they might be hormonal teens but Jesus Christ, they are so not going to do that again. Thomas looks like he doesn’t even understand why he did it and Newt doesn’t know either, so they just laugh it off and it doesn’t even get weird. Newt just finds himself comparing Thomas’s kiss to Minho’s and even if he’s not really talked to Minho about that whole night last weekend, he finds that he wishes Minho would’ve kissed him tonight instead. He would’ve wanted him to kiss him more than once. He takes another shot of tequila and thinks that he’s drunk enough to kiss Minho again without feeling like he needs to run. He leaves Thomas to his own devices and goes to find the boy who wanted him here tonight, a boy he can see himself kissing again.
